Founded in 1737, the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen is a research university of international renown with strong focuses in research-led teaching. The University is distinguished by the rich diversity of its subject spectrum, its excellent facilities for the pursuit of scientific research, and the outstanding quality of the areas that define its
profile. The name of Göttingen is associated with more than 40 Nobel Prize winners who have lived and worked here. Today about 25000 students (approx. 20% from abroad) are inscribed in 13 faculties. Teaching encompasses 115 programs of study (73 Bachelor / 22 Master). Research excellence of international standard is currently recognized across several fields. Of central relevance for this project is the theory and application of algorithmic solutions in neuroscience and physics.
The DPZ is a non-profit institute funded by the Federal Republic of Germany and its federal states. The DPZ’s mission is to serve as a center of excellence for research with primates and as a service and competence center for those institutions in Germany and abroad that house primates and/or do primate-related research (e.g. academic laboratories and zoological gardens). The center is organized in three sections (Infection Research, Organismic Primate Biology, Neuroscience). The functions and services of the DPZ concentrate on biological and biomedical research with primates comprising topics which may result in conclusions concerning human physiology, pathobiology and behavior. The DPZ is also dedicated to the preservation of nonhuman primates. The “Primate Husbandry” is the central infrastructural unit with breeding colonies for Old World and New World Monkeys (1400 animals).
P. Manoonpong and J.C. Larsen are affiliated with the Maersk Mc-Kinney Møller Institute which was established in 1997 as part of the Faculty of Science at the University of Southern Denmark. The institute is a leader in robotics and artificial intelligence in Denmark and hosts the Embodied AI & Neurorobotics lab of P. Manoonpong and J.C. Larsen. The institute has become a highly technological, internationally recognized center of excellence, where academia and industry in close collaboration develop new technologies for intelligent autonomous systems. The institute’s core research areas include embedded electronics, cyber physical systems, modern artificial intelligence, embodied neurorobotics, artificial life, bio-inspired robotics, computational neuroscience, cognitive
vision, and their usages in autonomous systems (robots and other technological artifacts). Besides this, the Maersk Mc-Kinney Møller Institute has for the past decade continually had ongoing projects at the European and national level both in application oriented research and basic research as carried out by FET.
